“A Night To Benefit The Children” A Smashing Success
February 19, 2007
I would like to publicly thank everyone for the part they played in making the sixth annual SASS benefit concert, A Night To Benefit The Children, such a smashing success. Since inception, sponsors, volunteers, the seacoast media and public have generously supported this event- a concert at The Music Hall featuring Beatle Juice- which supplies necessary funding to this organization and their heroic mission.
Specifically, I would like to thank this year’s financial sponsors: Tom and Kim Scholz, Boston, Fisher Scientific, Ocean National Bank and Waste Management; media sponsor Greg and the Morning Buzz on WHEB; and in-kind sponsors Galley Hatch Catering, Garofoli’s, Muddy River Smokehouse and Philbrick’s Fresh Market.
With this year’s concert receipts, we’ve been able to generate dangerously close to $100,000 to help educate and protect our seacoast children. The money we raise directly funds the children’s education and prevention programs at Sexual Assault Support Services.
This year, we were graced with the presence of the girl that inspired this effort. She was abused by her father from age 6 to 9, I met her when she was 10, and today she is 17. She reacted in a very emotional manner when the band was introduced and Kathy Beebe, Executive Director of SASS, went on about the purpose and the results we’ve achieved. She continues to struggle with her recovery. SASS was there to help her and her family through the process. This is why we do this event.
It wasn’t lost on me that my granddaughter Alexis, who was also in attendance, is 9 now, and the thought of an innocent child like that being abused makes me ill. If the work we do prevents one child from experiencing the horrors of abuse, it is time, money and effort well spent.
Again, thanks everyone. Words can’t possibly convey my appreciation and gratitude.
Appreciatively,
Bill Faulkner, Event Promoter |
