Teacher Training
Sexual abuse is a devastating problem that greatly affects many children and adolescents in our communities. Schools are ideal places to implement programs about personal body safety, building healthy relationships and sexual assault awareness so that children and teens get information and skills to help them stay safe. Because teachers, guidance counselors, school nurses, and school administrators are often the first people a child will turn to in an abusive situation, it is important that they have the knowledge and skills to respond appropriately.
Upon completion of this program, participants will understand:
- the dynamics and prevalence of child sexual abuse
- the effects of sexual abuse on child victims
- the stages of sexual development in children
- the core concepts of the Personal Body Safety curriculum
- consent and the laws on consent in New Hampshire
- the social dynamics of victim blaming in the context of sexual assault
- the physical and behavioral indicators of sexual abuse
- how to respond to a disclosure
